western culture vs. eastern culture (based on their sense of humor
)Earlier this evening, i went to see "meet the spartans". Simply put, as the title already suggested... it's a 300's rip off. Well, a rip off is a rude word. Let's call it a parody off 300.
to begin with, it has (well what do you think?) pieces of 300 but done differently. NO SPOILERS, I ain't gonna tell a jack about the story line. And pieces of MTV's tv programs, American's successful programs (e.g: Yo Momma, American Idol, etc), American latest gossip, and LOADS of hidden spots (could you TELL?) like Nike, Red Bull, Channel, etc. And some sex joke materials (there is no good comedy without it)
IMHO, it was alright. Such a pity that not everyone can appreciate good humor. Well American humor in this context. There are some points that really cracked the helluva outta me, but everybody kept silent. There I started to realize, eastern culture isn't that familiar with those kinda jokes. Such a shame.
Honestly, when we came out. I kept my ear sharp for comments. And here what I heard:
"That movie is very weird"
"I kept thinking 'huh?!!' "
"What was that??!!"
"I dont understand most of the parts"
Shame, shame.... I understand it's not really a big hit comedy or anything. Just their appreciation is quite low.
Its understandable in a way. There's no way asian would understand a gay joke, american latest gossips & tv programs (unless those who have cable at home).
Its not that Im putting eastern culture at the very low of the pedestal. But I just take a very noticeable point of view of how the thing stands.
They are not very open minded. And a lot things here are considered taboo. Eventhou the same things are considered child play in U.S or any western countries.
I guess that just the way eastern cultures are.
